Linfield College music students will present a series of opera scene performances during “Make Me Laugh, Make Me Cry – Operatic Scenes in Italian and French.” The performance will be Sunday, May 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall at Linfield.
The concert, performed by students in Linfield’s Opera Theatre class, will feature a variety of fully staged scenes from beloved operas. The varied program will contrast excerpts from comedic and witty operas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Giovanni Battista Pergolesi with works by Hector Berlioz, Léo Delibes and Charles-François Gounod. Highlights will include the duet from Pergolesi’s “La Serva Padrona,” the earliest example of operatic comedy; the hilarious trio from Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro;” “Là ci darem la mano,” a seduction scene from Don Giovanni; and the “Flower Duet” from Delibes’ “Lakmé.”
This concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call 503-883-2275 or visit www.linfield.edu/arts.
