“Apertura: Opening Doors to Oregon Wine” coming April 11 from Linfield Center for Wine Education

Graphic text: Apertura: Opening Doors to Oregon Wine, April 11, 2024Linfield University’s Center for Wine Education will host “Apertura: Opening Doors to Oregon Wine,” an afternoon of panel discussions and workshops designed to foster connection and lower barriers in the Oregon wine industry, on Thursday, April 11.  

The half-day event focuses on creating spaces, both physical and professional, for those who have historically been excluded from the wine industry. Apertura’s panels and workshops examine overlapping categories of exclusion, including socioeconomic, identity and physical ability.    Continue reading

Yuzo Yoshioka, consul general from the Japanese consular office in Portland, visited Linfield University’s McMinnville campus Monday to promote Japanese language and culture studies.

Linfield is one of only a few Oregon schools to offer majors in Japanese language and Japanese studies. It also offers minors in those fields and in Asian culture and Chinese, along with a major in global culture. Continue reading

A dozen princesses helped Madison Wright celebrate her fourth birthday Saturday at Scotty’s Playhouse, the indoor play structure established by the See Ya Later Foundation.

The event was a special gift to Madison from her sister, Isabelle, 5, as well as her parents, Cassie and Derek Wright, and the See Ya Later Foundation’s Seeds of Hope program, which helps families going through serious illnesses. Continue reading

Dr. Shawn Chen ’87 to speak at Linfield University’s 2024 Commencement

Dr. Shawn Chen '87Dr. Shawn Chen ’87, founder and chairman of Sias University, will serve as speaker for Linfield University’s 2024 Commencement on May 26.  

Chen, who holds a master’s in education from Linfield, went on to found Sias University in Zhengzhou, China. The university was designed to incorporate Western liberal arts traditions in a Chinese higher education setting. Since its founding in 1998, it has grown to more than 36,000 undergraduate students.  Continue reading

2024 Oregon Student Government Conference draws 94 student leaders from around the state

Attendees of the 2024 Oregon Student Government ConferenceJust over 90 students were gathered for the recent Oregon Student Government Conference, held for the first time at Linfield University on Feb. 25. But together, those 94 delegates represent the voice and interest of more than 91,000 college and university students around the state — from the largest public universities to the smallest liberal arts colleges.  

Organized by ASLU President Emma Campbell ’24 and Vice President Faith Sposito ’24, the daylong conference was held in the W.M. Keck Science Center on the McMinnville campus. Continue reading
