Maciel Garibay blazing a trail in U.S. and Ecuador

Flora Maciel Garibay '15Flora Maciel Garibay ‘15, a junior majoring in sociology, is nurturing a passion for helping others – in the United States and abroad.

Read more in this News-Register article. Maciel Garibay, a recipient of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, is currently studying at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Quito, Ecuador. She lives with a host family, and is looking for an opportunity to volunteer with victims of domestic violence during her stay. She is making plans, upon her return to McMinnville, for a program encouraging other Latino youths to seize opportunities to study abroad as well.

At Linfield, she is involved with Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan (MEChA) and Student Advocates for Gender Equity (SAE), and an off-campus organization that she helped found, Latinos Organizando Comunidades con Obras y Servicios (LOCOS).

Maciel Garibay will remain in Ecuador through the fall semester.
