Linfield to host fall commencement exercises

Linfield graduationA total of 115 candidates for degrees will be presented at the Linfield College fall commencement exercises Sunday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. in the Ted Wilson Gymnasium.

Closing convocation ceremonies for the Portland Campus will be held immediately following commencement at 3:30 p.m., also in the Wilson Gymnasium.

Amy Orr, George A. Westcott III Distinguished Professor of Sociology, will present the commencement address, “On Privilege and Responsibility.” Orr’s primary research focus is educational inequality, with a specific emphasis on racial/ethnic and gender differences in academic achievement. Her work has been published in journals such as “Sociology of Education” and “Sex Roles.” Prior to joining the Linfield faculty in 2001, Orr taught at the University of Notre Dame. She has a bachelor’s in sociology-anthropology and psychology from Nebraska Wesleyan University, and a master’s and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Notre Dame.

Special music will be provided by Linfield seniors Kayla Wilkens of Salem and Chelsea Janzen of Amity. Both are vocal performance majors.
