Linfield softball headed to nationals

The Linfield College softball team is headed to nationals after capturing its third straight and fifth regional championship since 2006, beating host Illinois Wesleyan 6-2 in the championship game Sunday, May 13.

All-Americans Staci Doucette and Emilee Lepp each hit home runs for the Wildcats (42-5).

Defending NCAA champion Linfield advances to this week’s Division III Finals in Salem, Va. The Wildcats will face the Ohio Northern Polar Bears in the opening game of the tournament, Friday at 8 a.m. PDT.

The Wildcats will travel directly from Illinois to Virginia without returning to Oregon.
