Linfield College and Chemeketa Community College are teaming up to help local students interested in pursuing a four-year college degree.
The new program will offer Linfield scholarships to qualified Chemeketa Scholars interested in completing their bachelor’s degrees at Linfield.
The Chemeketa Scholars Program currently offers full tuition scholarships to those accepted into the program. It is open to all high school students in the community college district who hold a 3.5 cumulative grade point average when they graduate from high school and enroll full time at Chemeketa.
Beginning this fall, Linfield will award up to 10 “Chemeketa Scholars at Linfield Awards” of $13,500 to qualified students who complete two full years of coursework at Chemeketa Community College as Chemeketa Scholars, and transfer to Linfield College. Priority will be given to students who meet Linfield’s admission qualifications and apply by the transfer application priority date of April 15. The award is renewable at the same dollar amount for two years of continuous enrollment at Linfield College.
“Linfield and Chemeketa want to jointly explore ways to serve talented local students who are interested in pursuing four-year degrees,” said Victoria McGillin, Linfield’s vice president for academic affairs/dean of faculty. “Because this special partnership will serve students in the local community college district, the Chemeketa Scholars at Linfield Award program will provide a higher scholarship award than our traditional transfer scholarship program.”
This new program will build on the strong relationship that has existed between Chemeketa and Linfield for many years. Discussions are under way to develop programs to assist Chemeketa students with the transition from community college to a four-year college, including mentoring, campus work projects or visit programs.
“This is an amazing partnership,” said Chemeketa Scholar, Alyson Williams. “The last two years at Chemeketa were a complete blessing because I did not have the means to pay for college. Now, it feels like my hard work is paying off and I could pursue my bachelor’s degree at Linfield College on the same type of scholarship.”
