Linfield Chamber Orchestra kicks off first concert of season

The Linfield Chamber Orchestra will kick off its 20th Anniversary Season with a concert of works spanning 250 years of music history.

“Celebration” is Friday, Oct. 22, at 8 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall at Linfield College in McMinnville.

Brief pieces by early classical composer Franz Xavier Richter and 20th century symphonist Jean Sibelius will be performed, along with the “Serenade for Strings in E major” by Antonin Dvorak.

Concertmaster Steven Shepherd and assistant concertmaster Casey Bozell will team up to perform Katherine Hoover’s “Concerto for Two Violins,” a warm, playful work with a rhythmic nod to jazz.

The performance will be conducted by Michael Gesme.

A collaboration of the Linfield College Department of Music and the community, the McMinnville-based orchestra now attracts world-renowned guest artists and professional musicians from across Oregon and southwest Washington.

Single reserved tickets are $25. General admission is $18 and $23, and $5 for K-12 students. For ticket and concert information, visit or contact the chamber orchestra at 503-883-2637 or
