Dutt-Ballerstadt teaches courses about diverse and minority voices in literature. Her book, The Postcolonial Citizen: The Intellectual Migrant, has been featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting, KBOO Community Radio, and at the Portland Center for Public Humanities. She has published articles and poems, and given numerous presentations about migrants, dislocation and exile.
Dutt-Ballerstadt serves on the Action Committee for Equity in Education (formal name? where is it based?) and has served on the editorial board of Word Warrior Press. She was a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, and received the 1999–2000 Loft Literary Center Award for poetry and the 1994 Celia Award for Best Fiction manuscript.
