John Sagers

Professor John Sagers teaches and publishes in the area of Japanese and East Asian history.

His books include East Asian Civilizations: Variety of Voices (under contract), which he edited, and Origins of Japanese Wealth and Power: Reconciling Confucianism and Capitalism, 1830-1885. Presentations have focused on money and empire in Japan and China, and early capitalism in Japan.

Dr. Sagers has served as a visiting scholar at Rikkyo University in Japan, and studied in Japan on a Fulbright Fellowship.
