To learn firsthand what soldiers experience during war, Linfield students were paired with local veterans to record experiences and take photos. The resulting “Portraits: Legacies of War” exhibit attracted veterans, students and professors, and coverage in The Oregonian.
The “Portraits” project was a collaboration of students in courses taught by mass communication Professor Susan Currie Sivek and Linfield Gallery Director Cris Moss. Students applied their skills in photography and journalism while gaining a deeper understanding of veterans’ service and of the effects of war on individuals and communities.
The student exhibition will be on permanent display at the local Veterans Services office.
The project is part of Linfield’s Legacies of War program, which features classes, guest speakers, films, panel discussions and study abroad programs that look at the causes, consequences and legacies of war.
