Linfield Theatre offers discussion on women in the workforce

Doll's House1In conjunction with Linfield College Theatre Program’s production of Henrik Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House,” a post-show discussion, “The Changing Face of the American Workforce: Women, Careers, Family and Sacrifices,” will be held Friday, Nov. 6, and will include panelists from the college and the McMinnville community.

The panel will include Kathleen Bernards, McMinnville businesswoman, and Ronni Lacroute of Willakenzie Estates.

In response to a recent report, “A Woman’s Nation Changes Everything” by Maria Shriver and the American Center for Progress, the discussion will focus on what the report calls the “greatest social transformation of our nation’s history” and how 40 percent of the American workforce is currently made up of women whose earnings provide the family with a substantial portion of the family income.

“The Shriver report raises such thought-provoking questions that we felt a community discussion about the challenges families face would tie in well with the issues Ibsen raised in his play 130 years ago,” said Janet Gupton, director of “A Doll’s House.”

The free discussion on Nov. 6 will be held immediately following the performance of “A Doll’s House,” at approximately 10:30 p.m. Those wishing to attend the performance as well may purchase tickets on the web at www.linfield.edu/culture. A small service charge will apply for web orders. “A Doll’s House” will be performed Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 5-6, and Nov. 12-14, at 8 p.m. in the Marshall Theatre in Ford Hall at Linfield. Another performance will be offered on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 2 p.m.

Tickets can also be purchased at the Marshall Theatre Box Office or ordered over the phone with a credit or debit card. Located inside Ford Hall, the box office is open Tuesday through Friday from 3 to 5 p.m., and until 8 p.m. on performance days. The box office will also be open Saturday, Nov. 7, and Saturday, Nov. 14, from 3 to 8 p.m., and from noon until 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8. The box office is closed on Mondays.
