Matthew, Poet
He will be reading from his new book that will hit the stands fall 2012 and from his award-winning first poetry book All-American Poem. The Los Angeles Times claims "Dickman crystallizes and celebrates human contact, reminding us...that our best memories, those most worth holding on to, those that might save us, will be memories of love.” He is looking forward to coming to Linfield to talk "nerdy" to everyone.

October
- Thor Hansen, author and biologist (Co-sponsored with English Department)
will give a reading from his newest book titled Feathers: the Evolution of a Natural Miracle. In this book Hanson examines feathers, describing them as an evolutionary marvel. From dinosaurs to Vegas showgirls, they date back to the dawn of time. Hanson details a sweeping natural history, as feathers have been used to fly, protect, attract, and adorn through time and place. He applies the research of paleontologists, ornithologists, biologists, engineers, and even art historians. Feathers have decorated queens, jesters, and priests and inked documents from the Constitution to the Magna Carta. Hanson explores just what these delightful objects mean to us. As Jeff Baker of The Oregonian put it, “The Oregon bird-watching community will love this book, and so will anyone else interested in an object that has captured our imaginations and helped us write and fish and sleep and do just about everything but fly.”

Molly Johnson, author (co-sponsored with the English Department)
Molly Johnson is a Linfield alumna with her first book hitting the shelves in October. Johnson will return to campus to read from her book Spartacus and the Circus of Shadows. She will share with the Linfield community about writing her manuscript, explain who her audience is and answer any Q&A. Biographical or background information on presenter(s) (if applicable): Molly Johnson always loved writing but officially became a writer after reporting sports for her small town newspaper in Sisters, OR - that is, until they discovered she knew nothing about football. She went on to Linfield were she wrote sarcastic movie, restaurant, and art reviews for the college newspaper. Johnson then completed an MA from Portland State University and a year of teaching English in China. Johnson now lives in Portland and works as a copywriter/creative mind and spends her free time reading, writing, learning, and traveling (or dreaming about it)
