Do ADP/DCE students need a Linfield Library card?
Linfield ADP/DCE students need a Linfield ID card. On the card is a barcode that is used to check out library material from Linfield libraries and to check your library account from the library homepage. Be sure your barcode is entered into the library circulation system. Call 1-800-452-4176 ext. 2261 or 503-883-2261 to check.

How do I get an ID card?
ID cards are made and sent to enrolled ADP/DCE students by the McMinnville DCE office. Call the office at 1-800-452-4176 for more information.

Can students check out materials from other Libraries?
There are reciprocal borrowing privileges at many Oregon Libraries for Linfield students. Most require a Linfield ID. See the local library services for your site on the main page for specific information.

Can students make interlibrary loan requests?
Yes, interlibrary loans (ILL) are free from the McMinnville campus library. Use the Search for full text links in databases and the Request from Interlibrary links to request books and articles from ILL. Contact Interlibrary Loan online or the Reference and Distance Learning Librarian if you have questions. Articles will be delivered online. You will get e-mail notification. Books will be sent by first class mail. Allow 3-7 days for most ILL articles and 1-2 weeks for most books to reach you. Some local libraries will also process ILL requests for Linfield students. Sometimes there is a charge to cover their costs.

Can DCE students use the Orbis Cascade Alliance borrowing system to borrow books?
Yes. requests made through Summit Borrowing in Linfield WorldCat arrive in McMinnville in about 5 days and are then mailed first class to DCE students. Orbis Cascade Alliance books can also be held at member libraries for direct pick-up. Go to the How to Use Summit the Orbis Cascade Alliance Borrowing System page for more details.

online databases to search for articles?
Yes. Our Research Databases are on the Linfield College Libraries homepage. Take some time to explore them either in the alpha list or the subject list under the Research Databases link and see the many options that are available. You will need a Linfield CatNet ID (login) and password to access our periodical databases from off campus.

Where/How do I start on my research project?
The Libraryland Research Tips page is a good place to find out about how to start on a research project from picking a topic to learning enough about the topic to begin your information search and how that topic my change as the research process develops. Can I make an appointment with a librarian for help with my research?
Many DCE students come to spend the day here to do research. Special attention and preparation is available if they call and make an appointment with Reference and Distance Learning Librarian.

Yes, Linfield ADP/ DCE students can call, e-mail, and fax requests for books and articles to the Reference and Distance Learning Librarian. You may also request delivery of materials directly online.

Can you do rush requests?
We send items ASAP, first class or electronically as soon as we get them. Almost anything in Linfield's collection can be sent out within 24 hours. Summit requests take about 5 days to get to Linfield and ILL request times vary with the lending institution.

Can pages from reference sources be sent to me?
Yes. We can copy and send short sections of reference books to you as an attachment to your e-mail or by the USPS. We also have an extensive collection of online reference sources linked from the Online Reference Shelf link on the library homepage.

Can you renew books? How do I do it?
Linfield books are checked out for 10 weeks to ADP/DCE students and are renewable unless there is a hold on the book. The ILL checkout period depends on the lending library. Usually it is 4 weeks. Summit libraries' checkout is for six weeks with NO renewal. Linfield students can renew books in person, by phone or online. You can check your patron record and renew online by going to the Linfield Libraries Homepage and clicking on My Library Account . To renew ILL books contact ILL.
