2009-2010 Season  “Passion

Infatuation

Friday, October 2, 2009
Chamber Orchestra
Ice Auditorium at 8:00 pm
Our first concert of the 2009-2010 season will open with the sentimental and rollicking overture to Rossini’s La Centerentola. Praised throughout his lifetime for his amazing achievements on the stage, Rossini’s operatic version of the Cinderella story is second only in popularity to his wildly successful Barber of Seville, Luigi Cherubini, regarded by Beethoven as his greatest contemporary, was Italian-born composer who spent the bulk of his career in France. His Symphony in D is a charming example of an early nineteenth-century symphonic creation: elegant, refined, and tinged with romantic tendencies. The concert will conclude with the overture and several selections from Mozart’s comic opera The Marriage of Figaro, featuring the talented students of Linfield College’s vocal music department.
Gioachino Rossini: Overture to La Cenerentola
Luigi Cherunbini: Symphony in D Major
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Highlights from Marriage of Figaro
