These pages answer questions about technology requirements and services provided
by the Integrated Technology Services Department at Linfield College. ITS is
responsible for many aspects of computing and data communications for students,
faculty, and staff.
Anytime you have a question that is not answered here, or you need more information,
feel free to contact us by email at support@linfield.edu or
by phone at (503) 883-2553.
Student Email Accounts
New Students must create a Linfield College email account before they can create a lab/library account. Students may apply online for email. Your Student ID number or Social Security number is required to process the request. Your email address will generally be your first initial followed by up to 6 letter of your last name. These will be followed by @linfield.edu.
Linfield Students use WebMail at https://exchange.linfield.edu to access the Linfield College email system.
Student Lab/Library Accounts
Any current Linfield student may have a lab/library account. This account is your CatNet ID which allows the use of compuers in the on campus compuers in the public labs and library, up to 20MB of network disk space along with printing privileges in theon-campus labs and library. Linfield has a system that tracks printing on public/networked printers and charges for printing. You have an allotment of 25 dollars of public printing per school year. Monochrome printers charge five cents per sheet. Color printers charge fifty cents per sheet. Print jobs in excess of this $25 allotment will be cahrged to your student account.
Personal Computers
Linfield supports Macintosh and PC platforms (See minimum
Requirements and Recommendations) A personal computer is not necessary although
many students find owning one helpful. The computers in the on-campus
labs meet the needs of a large number of students, especially during the
first year. Having a printer is convenient though not necessary. All on-campus
labs have printers available.
Ethernet connections in student residence hall rooms make a modem unnecessary.
Students who will be bringing computers will need to configure their computers
for access to Linfield's network. Students who bring Windows computers may get
a configuration CD from their RA or SA. Students who bring Mac computers may
get a configuration handout from their RA or SA. If you have problems configuring
your computer contact the ITS Support desk at ext. 2553 or support@linfield.edu.
Configuration and Ethernet card installation services are provided at no charge.
Just drop off your laptop or your desktop's CPU (we don't need the monitor) at
Mac Hall, room 103. There is generally a two to three day wait before completion.
Want to bring your computer in before Orientation? Call ITS Support at (503)
883-2553.
New Computers ordered through the Linfield Bookstore
New Macintosh computers ordered from the Linfield
Bookstore during the summer will be available for pickup in the bookstore
during Orientation.
The bookstore offers educational discounts and on-campus warranty for any Mac
computer purchased through them. Ethernet cables and software will also be available
for purchase.
Please refer to the Linfield Bookstore for
more information regarding ordering or shipping computers.
