Samba (Z:Drive) Transfer - Mac's

If you are currently using OS 10.3.x, you will be unable use the Advanced Upload feature and will use Add File instead.
Advanced Upload feature requres OS 10.4.or above with Java 1.5 or above which is available is the Renshaw Lab or the Nicholson Library.

Currently, the Safari Web browser is incompatible with CatFiles. Thank you for your patience while ITS works to resolve this problem.

Transferring from Samba (Z:Drive) to CATFiles

Open Samba HOME:

1. To get to Samba (if you don’t have a shortcut):

  • Use Go menu -> Connect to Server.
  • In Server Address field type in smb://samba.linfield.edu/home.
  • Click Connect button.

NOTE: Samba (Z:Drive) is only accessible from on-campus.

2. A System Authentication dialog window will appear.

    • Workgroup or Domain – CATNET.
    • Name - your UserName.
    • Password - type in your CATNet password.
    • Click OK button.

3.Your Samba HOME window will appear/open and a HOME icon home desktop icon will appear on your desktop.

Open your CATFiles:

5. Open a web browser (Sarari or FireFox).

  • In the Address Bar type in catfiles.linfield.edu and press keyboard Enter key.

6. A CATFiles login dialog window will appear.

  • Provide your Username and Password.
  • Domain should be linfield.edu.
  • Click the OK button OR click on Login OR press keyboard Enter/Return key.

7. Click on Upload icon.

8. An Upload File in: window appears.
(If you are using OS 10.3 you will need to use the Add Files button to transfer/add your documents one at a time).

  • To enable multiple doc/drag and drop transfer applet, click on the Advanced Upload link (you will only need to do this one time).
  • If you see a Certificate prompt appear, click on the Trust button.

NOTE: This Advanced Upload requires Java plugin1.5 or higher. Go to Apple menu -> Software Update if you need to update to a newer version of Java.

9. Go back to your Samba HOME window.

  • Select/highlight all the documents and folders you wish to transfer.
  • Drag and drop them into the Upload File window.
  • Click on Start Upload button (you will see a progress bar appear next to each document indicating the upload status).

10. Close your Samba HOME window and drag your HOME icon home desktop icon to the Trash.

  • Your documents and folders should now appear in your CATFiles.

11. Log Out of CATFiles.
