Passwords - choosing yours wisely
Passwords MUST:
- Be at least 6 characters long
- contain at least one non-alphabetic character or number (not including the
space, quotes, or @ symbol)
Passwords SHOULD:
- be composed of random characters
- include mixed case letters
Passwords should NOT:
- contain your user id, social security number, street address, phone number,
birth date, family names, or other words or numbers that can be tied to your
identity
- be a recycled version of another password
- be all numbers
Suggestions for creating your password
- incorporate non-alphabetic characters in common words, e.g., “kit8chn”
- substitute numbers for words, syllables, and letters in common words, e.g, “eze2cu” instead
of “easy to see you”
- Use the first letters of a phrase, movie, book or song title, substituting
numbers for letters, e.g. “22igafwnika” instead of “Toto, I’ve
got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore”
