Creating a New Page in Modx

To create a new page in Modx, firt log in to the manager at http://www.linfield.edu/manager. Once in, locate the parent page where you would like to create your new page. That is, you are creating the page inside another page, such as your department's home page. Click on the parent resource's icon and selcet "Create Resource Here" (see below).

create new menu

Once you have created the resource, you will be presented with the editing screen. The first thing to do is add the meta-data for the page, things like the title and whether it appears in the menu or not. You will need to fill in the "Title" field, the "Menu Title" field (these should be the same). You can ignore the "Alias" field unless your page title is very long. The alias is what acutally forms the friendly url of the page - the "create.html" part of "http://www.linfield.edu/it/knowledge/create.html". If left blank Modx will use your page title, which is fine unless your page title is "My really long page title for a really short page" which would look like "http://www.linfield.edu/it/knowledge/my-really-long-title-for-a-really-short-page.html" which is a really dumb file name.

If you don't want the page to appear in the parents' page menu, de-check the "Show in Menu" box. The Menu Index field indicates what order the new page will appear in on the parent page menu list. The template should have been pre-selected for you when you created the resource.

Meta Screen

Below the meta data is the Resource Content section. This is where you actually create the content that appears on the page.
