Land Line Phones Changes in Residence Halls

All residence halls have land line phone jacks.  Because of the very low usage of these jacks, beginning with the start of the Fall 2012 semester, these jacks will be inactive.  ITS will activate a phone jack in a residence hall by request.  To do so, please send an email to support@linfield.edu with your name, residence hall, room number and a brief description of why you'd like this jack activated.

Voice Mailbox Information

Activate Your Voice MailBox - You will only need to do this once per school year.
1. Dial 2422.
2. Enter your mail box number (your 4 digit telephone number) followed by # button.
3. Enter password (default is 2 digit code and your 4 digit telephone number) followed by # button.
**Note - 2 digit code changes every year and is found in the Linfield College ITS Telephone, Voicemail Instructions that you receive OR contact your RA.
4. You will now need to change your password.
5. Press 84.
6. Dial your new password number followed by # button.
7. Dial your new password number again followed by # button.
8. Dial old password number followed by # button.
9. Listen for instructions on additional options.

Access/Log-In to YOUR Voice MailBox

Access - From/In your Room:
1. Dial 2422.
2. Dial your ext. number followed by # button.
3. Dial your password number followed by # button.

Access - From a CELL PHONE or Off Campus Phone :
1. Dial 503-883-2422 (you will hear 'Call Pilot from Nortel Network <pause> Mailbox').
2. Dial your ext. number followed by the # button.
3. Dial your password followed by the # button.

Greetings - internal & external greetings
1. Log-In/Access your voice mailbox.
2. Press 82. You will be asked to select 1 for an external greeting or 2 for an internal greeting.
3. Press 1 for external greeting (if you personalize your external greeting only, that greeting will be heard by both external and internal callers) OR Press 2 for internal greeting.
4. Press 5 to record your greeting and press # button to end recording.
5. Press 2 to review recording or press 4 to exit.
6. Replace handset.

Greetings - personal verification recording
Recording your name (and extension number) in your voice against your mailbox number. Callers will hear your name in your voice when your voice mailbox is contacted.
1. Log-In/Access your voice mailbox.
2. Press 82.
3. Select 9 for Personal Verification.
4. Press 5 (you will hear a beep) start recording your name and extension number.
5. Press # to stop recording.
6. Press 2 to if you would like to review/hear your recording.

Messages - deleting a message
1. Press 76 while you are listening to or after listening to each message to delete it.
(We hope that you will delete the message as quickly as possible after listening to it. This will allow space in the voice mail system to become available for reuse. Messages that have been listened to will automatically be deleted after 2 days. Unheard messages will be deleted after 10 days).

Messages - listen to a message
1. Log-In/Access your voice mailbox.
2. Press 2 to repeat a message.
3. Press 4 to go skip back to previous message.
4. Press 6 to skip to next message.
5. Press # to pause message (press 2 to resume listening after pausing).

Messages - leave a message in another voice mailbox
1. Log-In/Access your voice mailbox.
2. Press 75.
3. Enter the four digit phone extension number followed by the # button (you may enter additional extension numbers followed by the # button after each entry).
4. Press # button twice when all extension numbers are entered.
5. Press 5 to record your message and press #button to end recording.
6. Press 79 to send message.

Messages - waiting indicator
"Stutter Dial Tone" is heard indicating that a message is waiting.

Password - changing yours
1. Log-In/Access your voice mailbox.
2. Press 84.
3. Dial your new password number followed by # button.
4. Dial your new password number again followed by # button.
5. Dial old password number followed by # button.
**Password numbers must be a minimum of 4 digits**

Transfer a Call
(You may transfer incoming calls to another on-campus extension. For Cell Phones see Quick Tips below)
1. Ask party calling to hold.
2. Depress switchhook.
3. Dial the 4 digit extension number you wish to transfer to.
4. When the transfer to extension number answers, announce the transfer.
5. Replace handset (you have disconnected yourself from the incoming call).

Quick Tips for Voice Messages (click for printable PDF)

While you are LISTENING to your messages from your room phone OR CELL PHONE, you can:

Press 1 Skip backwards five seconds within the message
Press 2 Repeat the message or resume playing if you have paused it.
Press 3 Skip forward five seconds within the message.
Press 4 Skip back to the previous message.
Press 6 Skip to the next message.
Press 9 Call the ext. number the message came from.
Press * Help menu.
Press # Pause the message you're listening to. Press 2 to continue.
Press 73, ext. number forwarding to, # button, # button again, (press 5 to include/record a message from you followed by # button to end recording). Press 79 to send. Forward message to another Linfield 4 digit extension.
(A message copy is put into your mailbox).
Press 76 Delete the message you're listening to.
