General Information

Q: What is Clean Access?
A: Clean Access is a client application that can check certain security setting on any Microsoft Windows PC to make sure that the system is up-to-date with required security patches. NO information about you or the content of your files is gathered. Clean Access must be used in order to validate your Microsoft Windows PC for the Linfield Network. MAC users will only need to authenticate using the CatNet LAN Authentication web page.

Q: What Validation Checks are being performed?
A: Clean Accessing is checking to see if you have the most current Windows Updates, Anti-Virus software protection and current Anti-Virus Updates.

Q: Are there any Validation Checks for Macintosh and Linux Users?
A: Macintosh/Linux users must authenticate by logging in via a web page (CatNet LAN Authentication).

Q: Do I have to use the Clean Access client?
A: Yes. All Windows PCs are required to pass the Clean Access for network access.

Q: What if I get a Windows Updates failure?
A: Click on the Go to Link button and you will be redirected to the Microsoft Updates web page. Go to Passing Windows Updates on Windows 7, Vista and XP for instructions on passing Clean Access.

Q: What if I get an Anti-Virus failure?
A: Click on the Update button and your anti-virus software will be prompted to update. Go to Passing AV Updates on Windows 7, Vista and XP for instructions on passing Clean Acess.

Installation

Q: How does Clean Access get installed?
A: Once you have authenticated on the CatNet LAN Authentication page, you will be redirected to a Network Security Notice page where you will download Clean Access. Go to Windows 7 Installation information OR Vista Installation information OR XP Installation information for additional instructions on installing Clean Access.

Q: How do I know Clean Access installed successfully?
A: You will see a Clean Access icon on your desktop and also in the 'System Tray' (lower right corner, near the time display).

Q: What if I uninstall Clean Access?
A: You will be required to re-install Clean Access at next login.

Q: I get a message to Modify/Repair or Remove when I try to install Clean Access?
A: Clean Access is already installed on your computer. You do not need to install again.

Q: I know I installed Clean Access but it does not run and I do not see the icon in my system tray?
A: Clean Access may have failed to launch at the end of the installation process. Go to Start menu -> All Programs -> Cisco -> Cisco NAC Agent -> Cisco NAC Agent to launch the program.

Logging In and Logging Out

Q: How to I login?
A: There are two ways to login:
1. Clean Access will automatically display a popup when you connect to the network. You will enter your CatNet ID (email username) and CatNet Password (email password).
2. If the Clean Access login window does not automatically popup when you connect to the network, right click on the CA icon in the system tray and choose Popup Login Window.

Q: I do not get a Clean Access popup display?
A: Manually login by right-clicking on the Clean Access icon in the system try and choose 'login'.

Q: I open my web browser and I get a blank page with no login fields?
A: Go to a non-local (non www.linfield.edu) site.

Q: How do I logout?
A: The only way is to manually logout using the Clean Access 'logout' feature. You can right-click the Clean Access icon in the system tray and choose 'logout'.

Q: I am not able to access the internet but Clean Access only allows me to logout. What's up?
A: Clean Access may not always detect your network status. Please 'logout' then 'login' again.

Validating and Updating

Q: When I run Windows Update, I get a message stating that the product key used to install windows is invalid?
A: Windows Update will fail if your Windows OS is not properly licensed. You must have a legal copy of the operating system to connect to the network.
