The beautiful coastline on one of my favorite beaches, Palm Cove.

 Hello again!

We now officially have only 23 days left in the Sunshine State of Queensland in the beautiful country of Australia!

This week was our last week of classes. I am now done with my daily courses, but I still have two exams coming up. The courses I took this semester include: Digital Photography, Effective Speaking, Linking Indigenousness, and Australian Society: An Introduction to Sociology. Both Digital Photography and my speaking class have no finals, so I only have two to worry about, thankfully!

As we were warned, the grading system in Australia is much different from ours. There are no A’s, B’s, C’s, etc. Here, we receive HD’s, D’s, etc. The highest mark you can get is a high distinction, then distinction, credit, pass, and fail. Credit is most likely equivalent to a low B or high C in America. A high distinction is really great, except they are almost never given out. I’ve gotten one HD and a D on the rest of my assignments, but either way, it’s best not to worry about the grade you get, because most often the grades you receive are credits. It took me a long time to grasp the Australian education system.

It’s that time in the semester when all of the assignments are due and stress levels are higher than normal. I have my last assignment due tomorrow, after which I can begin worrying about my exams.

However, it hasn’t been all stress and no play! With such a short amount of time left, I’ve been hanging out with my Australian friends as much as possible. We’ve been planning to go to Fitzroy Island soon. According to friends who have visited there, the beach is mostly coral, so I’m definitely excited to snorkel along the coastline there. Snorkeling one more time before I leave is one of my goals. You can also camp on the island there, so we plan on staying a night or two. From now until the 10th and 11th, I have all the free time in the world! Then, after exams, I have free time until I leave on the 21st of June. Maile and I had wanted to visit Sydney, because the airlines had a 2 for 1 deal for $100 round-trip, which is an insanely good deal, but unfortunately, it clashes with our departing flights for America.

Until next time,

Sara
