Calanques

Since Morocco I have been really busy.  School has really picked up in the level of work as it always does near the end of a semester.  However, on the weekends I have gotten to take some really great day trips with family and friends.

The first weekend back from Morocco I visited Aix-en-Provence with my family.  We went because my mom wanted to find a gift for her sister’s birthday.  When we arrived we grabbed a slice of pizza for lunch and then my mom went off to shop.  I walked around Aix with my dad, sister and brother, who was visiting for his vacation.  We walked around Aix and saw all the little shops and main street.  The market had just stopped so we watched people clean up.  We got some freshly made juice at a little shop and then sat at a fountain and listened to the street musicians perform.

The next weekend was very sunny and beautiful in the South.  My family and I went to Cassis, which is another little town on the Mediterranean.  We walked around and enjoyed the sun, visiting all the little shops.  For a snack we stopped at a little restaurant to eat crepes!  I had bananas and Nutella on my crepe, which was amazing as all crepes are here.  It was a great outing with my family and I’m really glad I got to spend some time with them.

Yesterday was the first official day of vacation!  So to celebrate some friends and I went to the Calanques.  They are little coves all along the coast with beautiful views of the brilliant blue sea.  You can take the bus straight for the center of Marseille and then you hike down to the water.  The water is definitely a little cold but I’m looking forward to going back on a hot day to swim.  It was a great start to my vacation.

Tomorrow a friend from school and I leave for Lyon, which is a larger town in about the middle of France, but still a little to the south.  We plan on doing some wine tasting and visiting the zoo there as well.  For the second part I will be going to a suburb of Paris to visit an exchange student I had my senior year of high school.  It will be a really great, relaxing experience and I’m looking forward to it.  It is hard to imagine I only have a month left and I know that time will fly by.  I’ll keep you all posted on my continued adventures!
