2014-01-26 My First Week in France

View of Marseille from Notre Dame de la Garde

After many traveling woes on the way here I arrived safely in Marseille last Saturday the 18th.  Since then I have had many interesting adventures.   The first weekend I spent getting to know my host family.  They are really fantastic and similar to my own family, so that has been really great for me.  I think it's really important to have a host family you are comfortable with because the support they give you is crucial.  On Sunday they took me on a small tour of Marseille.  We visited Notre Dame de la Garde which is a large church.  There was a beautiful view of all of Marseille.

My first week here has been focused on orientation and getting to know Marseille.  I have learned all about French culture and language.  I won't  bore you all with a lot of specifics but things like table manners and the difference between the formal, current, and familiar language.

On Friday I met one of my language partners at the end of the day.  We went out to dinner with some of the other students and their language partners.  On Saturday I visited the region of Luberon in three small villages.  It was very picturesque and beautiful and I'm so glad I got to go.

I am excited to start classes tomorrow and I'll keep you all posted as my adventures continue.
