Today we went to the Elephant Nature Park! We started the day off by taking an hour and a half long drive towards the jungle. The scenery was amazing! It was refreshing to see the beautiful trees and mountains after being in the city for 10 days. Once we arrived at the park we were greeted by three elephants, one of them only 4 months old! Here we were able to hand-feed them watermelon and bananas! It was amazing to be so close to these huge and magnificent creatures! After this we met our leader, whose name was "Cherry." At the park they like to go by names of fruit, so our group was named "pineapple." Cherry showed us around the park and taught us some fun Thai lingo such as, "bah bah" which means "let's go", and "ma ma" which means "come here." Throughout the day she talked to us about the individual elephants and their background stories. Many of the elephants had broken hips and destroyed feet from their previous owners in the logging and trekking industries. It was very sad to hear the stories about the elephants' lives, but relieving to know they are in a safer place now. After lunch we were able to bathe the elephants in the river! It was so much fun! All in all, this was an amazing experience that will never be forgotten!
I hope all is well back home!
