2013-06-11 4/26 - Exploring the Gold Coast
April 26th, 2013
Last week, April 15-19, was lecture recess (at home we might refer to it at spring break…but here it’s lecture recess since they don’t really have spring, and even if they did, it wouldn’t be spring here, it’d be in fall). Ever since the beginning of the semester, Shelby and I had been looking to do something over the long break, especially since neither of us had class until the follow Wednesday, so our break could really be April 13-23. We had decided that we were going to fly south to The Gold Coast.
We were making our reservations and Shelby’s roommate decided she wanted to come, so the three of us tried to finalize a brief outline of the places we wanted to visit. We visited Broadbeach, which is where the closest Starbucks is, and enjoyed a little taste of home even though none of us drink SB at home! We made our way back down the coast through Coolangatta, also visiting Burleigh Heads, Tweed Heads, Nimbin, Lismore and Lennox head, down to Byron Bay, where we spent most of our time. It was the most enjoyable and laid back city I’ve ever been in where the streets are lined with different types of shops and restaurants, and the beach is spectacular. We went sea kayaking and surfing, got dreads and hair wraps, listened to live music, visited a clothing-optional beach, talked to locals and spent time truly enjoying ourselves.
