Journals from 2008 Semester Abroad in Galway, Ireland
2008-04-13 Quick visit!
Last weekend my aunt, uncle, and two cousins came to visit me. It was so nice to see family, even though it was only for a day and a half. On their first day here I took them to Busker Browns for dinner. I had the fish and chips. It was the first time I had had fresh fish since I have been here; sad I know. It was absolutely delicious. We then walked around down-town Galway for a bit and then headed back to their hotel room. We all sat around talking and snacking. My uncle couldnt get over how cold it is here. I had to laugh because he is originally from New York and currently lives in New Jersey " both states get cold winters. However, he explained to me that they dont experience the harsh winds that Ireland gets, so it doesnt feel as cold.
The following day we all went to Salthill. I have heard good things about it all semester and just had not found the time to go. Although it was cold, we had beautiful weather. We walked on the coastline for a while, which was beautiful. I find it extremely interesting how rocky the sand is here. There was not much to do in Salthill, so we decided to walk back to down-town Galway. We found a weekend street market and stopped for crepes. We each got a savory and sweet one " we like our food! They were some of the best crepes I have had and cheap. I could not remember the last time I had walked around down-town Galway on a weekend. There were so many people out. I then walked my family back to the hotel and said my good byes. I was thinking it was going to be extremely hard to see them go, but it was not. I know they, along with the rest of my family, will be waiting for me when I return. Until then, I want to soak up the remainder of my time here. I can hardly believe we are going home next month!
