Shelley Jones

 

 

B.S in Community Service and Public Affairs from the University of Oregon

M.S. in Communication Disorders from Western Oregon State College

Nationally certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Speech pathologist with 20 years of experience. 

Owner of Northwest Speech Center, which offers speech services to international employees of businesses and organizations both in the United States and abroad.

Believes that effective oral communication skills are critical for both professional and personal growth.

Taught Argument and Critical Discourse and Public Speaking at OSU for 4 years.
Taught English Communication at Katano High School in Osaka, Japan for 3 years.
Taught English as a Second Language at Portland Community College in both the ESOL and MAP programs for 3 years.

Interested in experiencing culture through travel, promoting self and community awareness, and teaching communication for cultural, political and social improvement.

B.A. Anthropology and Languages from Northwestern University; M.Ed. with specific endorsement in Learning Disabilities from University of Illinois Chicago; Ph.D. in Expressive Arts with a specialization in Multicultural Education from Union Institute and University

Certified Journal Instructor since 2000 offering workshops at Legacy Good Samaritan; Member of the National Association For Poetry Therapy and the Society for Arts in Healthcare. NEA Literary Artist-in-Education; NEH Chautauqua scholar; Author of Writing Across Cultures, Writing With Multiple Intelligences, and In A Place Called Sanctuary~Writings From A Healing Garden.

Teacher and learning specialist in Portland Public Schools for fifteen years. Taught in the English and ESL Departments at Linfield College from 1990 – 2001 and in the English Language and Culture Program from 2008 - present.

As one who respects individual learning styles, her methods help students achieve their fullest potential across racial and cultural divides.

M.A. TESL. University of California Los Angeles.

Taught in China and in many European countries before coming to Linfield in 1985. Coordinates the English Language and Culture Program, teaches Intercultural Communication and a freshman Inquiry Seminar.

Co-author of several texts including Seeing the Big Picture: A Cinematic Approach to Understanding Cultures in America.

Focuses on creating bridges for U.S. and international students to learn from each other both in and outside the classroom.

Taught secondary math, science, and ESL in Washington and California for 7 years.

Taught English Conversation in Japan for 2 years.

Linfield College 2002 to present in English Language and Culture Program.

Interested in using technology, expanding vocabulary, and promoting cultural awareness to enhance learning.
