PHIL-398 Asian Thought in China
An integrated on-site study course dealing with the thought and culture of China, focusing on the major philosophical traditions. Primary source readings will focus on understanding the ancient traditions of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, with attention also to Neo-Confucianism, developments under Maoist Communism, and contemporary Comparative Philosophy. The itinerary will include Beijing, Qufu, Louyang, Guilin and Yangshuo, and/or Kunming and Dali.Prerequisite: No prerequisites but preference will be given to students with some background in philosophy. Philosophy East-West is recommended.
