The FDL (AKA the "Fiddle Lab") contains a variety of multimedia resources for faculty use. The most important resource is of course its staff. Jo Meyertons will be the primary contact for the FDL, followed by Andy Lockhart and specially trained students.

In the Fiddle Lab, you can:

  • Be a digital video wizard: Capture, edit and save digital video files a variety of formats, including for CD ROM or DVD and the Internet. You can use iMovie, Final Cut Express or Final Cut 3 on our Apple computers, or MovieMaker 2 or Adobe Premier Elements on our Windows computers. We have one copy of AutoDesk Cleaner for higher-end video conversion needs (Windows). We have digital camcorders, tripods and external hard drives that can be checked out.

  • Be a digital image wizard: Create, edit and save images using Adobe ImageReady, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Fireworks on either our Windows or our Apple computers. We have still digital cameras and tripods that can be checked out.

  • Be an audio file wizard: Create, edit and save audio files using Audacity on either our Windows or Apple computers. You can also use Adobe Auditions (Windows) or Garageband (Apple). You can also use iTunes to create podcasts, or a digital video program to dub audio over movie clips or slideshows. The Fiddle Lab is equipped with Plantronics headsets with microphones. You may also check out an iPod or a Creative Zen player to experiment with audio files, video files, podcasts and vodcasts.

  • Be a web page wizard: You can use Macromedia Dreamweaver or NVU to create web pages. If you are a more advanced user, you can use Flash 8 (with Flash video encoder) to create interactive web page elements on both Windows and Apple computers.

  • Communicate via Skype or SightSpeed over WebCams: Using our Intel Apples with iSight, you can make free video phone calls and conference calls to any PC in the world!

  • Create a CD ROM interface for portfolios or other presentations: Using eZediaMX (or other software) you can make a high quality interace with buttons and other interactive links.
