Flexible Benefits 125 Plan – Allegiance Benefit Plan Management, Inc.
A Flexible Benefits account enables you to increase your take-home pay by decreasing your taxable income. You can reduce the cost of insurance premiums, medical expenses not covered by insurance, certain over-the-counter medicines and dependent daycare expenses by paying these costs on a pre-tax basis. Pre-tax denotes that you will not pay state, federal, or FICA withholdings on these earnings.
The Plan Year for this benefit is April 1st through March 31st of each year. Employees must enroll in the Flexible Benefits program within 31 days of employment or during the annual Open Enrollment period for participation in the next Plan Year.
COBRA (The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1986)
This is a federal law that requires employers to sponsor group health plans to employees and their families when they no longer work for the college as temporary extension of health coverage at group rates. Employees who lose health coverage can continue to pay for coverage for a maximum of 18 months; however, there are some situations where the coverage may continue to a maximum of 36 months.
On the last day of employment an employee will be offered medical and dental COBRA options.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
To help employees and their dependents resolve personal problems, the college offers an employee assistance program. EASE is a confidential counseling service; asking for, or receiving help through this program will not affect your job status or employment opportunities.
To reach EASE, call 800-654-9778 or go to their website at www.easeeap.com
