Flu shots are still available at the Student Health Center for $30.00, payable by cash or check.  We will be giving flu shots on a walk-in basis as time allows.  Close to campus, Flu shots are available at Walgreens Pharmacy from 10:00-4:00 for $24.99.  Walgreens will bill medical insurance for the flu shot but cannot guarantee payment by the insurance company.   At Savon Pharmacy located in Albertsons flu shots are available for $24.99.  Savon Pharmacy will bill medical insurance but cannot guarantee payment by insurance companies.

We strongly encourage students and faculty and staff to get a flu shot.  Every year we have the flu virus on campus.

Health officials recommend receiving seasonal flu vaccine now and receiving the H1N1 vaccine sometime in October.

If you have any questions, please contact the Student Health Center at x2535.

INFORMATION ABOUT SWINE FLU

"Cases of influenza A have been reported in Yamhill County and there have been some laboratory confirmed cases of influenza A at Linfield College.  Because seasonal influenza typically does not appear until later in the year, it is suspected that the current influenza A is the H1N1 strain.  Regardless of the strain of influenza virus, the recommendations are the same;  if you develop chills, body aches and a cough, especially if accompanied by a fever, isolate yourself in your dorm room, apartment, or bedroom of your housing situation, notify your professors that you are ill, if living in campus housing let your RA know so that a care kit and meals can be provided.  The Student Health Center encourages ill students to stay well hydrated, use Tylenol or Advil (not aspirin) for fevers and body aches and continue to isolate in your room until you have been fever free without the use of fever-reducing medicine for 24 hours.  If your condition worsens in spite of these measures, or if you have an underlying medical condition such as asthma, diabetes or are taking medicines that weaken your immune system, please call the Student Health Center at 503-883-2535.

Please remember that following these recommendations not only helps you recover faster, but protects the well being of other members of the Linfield community.

The Student Health Center and the County Health Department are in frequent contact throughout the day. We remind all members of the Linfield Community to continue to follow these important steps to prevent the spread of illness:

  1. Protect yourself and others by washing your hands frequently;
  2. Cover your mouth with something other than your hand if you cough or sneeze and
  3. If you are sick, seek medical attention but otherwise avoid contact with other people to decrease the risk of exposure to others.
