Thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends of Linfield, the Dave Hansen Endowed Chair in Economics has been completed. We have received over $2 million in gifts and commitments for this new endowment. While many alumni remember him as a professor of economics for 43 years, others remember him for the 22 years that he also served as the Dean of Students. Dave has made a significant impact on generations of students through sharing his passion for economics and cultivating new leaders, and Linfield is honored to celebrate his enduring legacy in this way.
Jeff Summers, professor of economics, was named the inaugural Dave Hansen Endowed Chair in Economics effective July 1. Summer’s teaching and research interests relate to public policy issues with an emphasis on the economics of higher education. He has many publications and presentations to his credit, and has served as a reviewer for the American Educational Research Association, The Association for the Study of Higher Education and the journal of Education Economics. The endowment will provide additional support for Summers’ teaching, scholarship and outreach activities.
This new endowed chair also means that we are able to add a faculty member to the Department of Economics. Brittany Teahan has joined the faculty from Indiana, where she completed her doctoral degree at Purdue University. She has received several awards for her teaching while completing her graduate studies. We are excited to have Teahan join the faculty.
Many thanks to all who helped to establish the Dave Hansen Endowed Chair in Economics and enhanced the power of a great faculty.
