2012-13 Linfield Fund Report

In 2012-13, more than 2,800 alumni, parents, employees and friends contributed a combined $825,714 to the Linfield Fund. These gifts made an immediate impact by providing critical student scholarships, supporting our teaching faculty, and funding capital and technology improvements. Your gift to the Linfield Fund ensures students like Ashley ’14 have access to a personalized education that will prepare them to become leaders in their professions and communities.

Ashley, a business major from Honolulu, Hawaii, is thankful for her Linfield experience, and has taken full advantage of her time here. She works in the office of Admission and is a member of the Student Alumni Association. She contributes to CAMAS and co-chairs the Hawaiian Club’s luau. Ashley studied abroad in France and Italy last January, is a scholarship recipient and is a mentor through the RISE program. She understands her one-of-a-kind Linfield experience would not be possible without your support.

Student Scholarships

Gifts to the Linfield Student Scholarship Fund provided scholarship assistance to 504 McMinnville and Portland campus students during 2012-13, giving them the opportunity to continue their Linfield education while focusing on academic success and extracurricular engagement, rather than worrying about how to afford their education.

A Strong Teaching Faculty

Linfield faculty are committed to educating and inspiring our students. The Linfield Fund allows our students, professors and departments to take advantage of unique educational and professional development opportunities that would otherwise be impossible:

• This summer more than 50 students engaged in faculty-student collaborative research projects, exploring topics as diverse as aural skills acquisition and pediatric bone cancer.
• Jesús Ilundáin-Agurruza, associate professor of philosophy, was able to give a keynote address in Madrid, Spain at the conference of the International Association for the Philosophy of Sport.
• Nick Buccola, associate professor of political science and founding director of the Frederick Douglass Forum on Law, Rights, and Justice, was able to travel to various conferences to promote his new book The Political Thought of Frederick Douglass through generous gifts. 

Campus Improvements

Your gifts also supported capital improvements including renovations, sustainability improvements and new construction projects. Here is a look at a few of the capital projects you supported this past year:

• A solar powered trash compactor was purchased and placed outside of Dillin to enhance sustainability and improve efficiency.
• Elkinton, Terrell, Larsell, Anderson, Frerichs and Hewitt’s heating systems were upgraded to provide adequate heat during the coldest part of the winter. HP Park now has improved hot water service, and Latourette Hall now has new fire egress and furnishings. 
• The steam line on the McMinnville campus was upgraded to reduce our utility costs and carbon footprint while helping to meet our sustainability goals.
