
Welcome to 2013 orientation for first year students. Residence hall move-in is on Thursday, August 22th, required orientation activities begin on Friday, August 23rd, and the first day of fall semester classes is on Monday, August 26th.
9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Early Arrival for Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Volleyball, Cheerleading, First CLAS, and iFOCUS Program – Check-in will begin in Riley Campus Center. You need to check-in here before going to your residence hall. Review your letter from your coach or program director for more details.
3:30 p.m. Welcome Session for Early Arrivals – Melrose Hall - College staff will welcome parents and students in Ice Auditorium. Students will stay for a portion of the program and parents will stay a bit longer.
11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Early Arrival for Football - Check-in will begin in Riley Campus Center. You need to check-in here before going to your residence hall. Review your letter from your coach for more details.
2:00 p.m. Welcome Session for Early Arrivals – Melrose Hall - College staff will welcome parents and students in Ice Auditorium. Students will stay for a portion of the program and parents will stay a bit longer.
Please note: For students moving into residence halls there is no meal service today. Lunch and dinner are on your own.
9 a.m.-3 p.m. Check-in at Fred Meyer Lounge – Riley Campus Center - This is the first and most important stop of the process so make this the first place you go as you begin your move-in. Here you will pick up your Student ID card and other information appropriate to the start of the school year. To make the process go smoothly please make sure you have uploaded a photo so we can create your ID Card before you arrive.
9 a.m.-3 p.m. After Check-in, Residence Hall Move-In - If you will live in a residence hall or campus apartment you can go to your assigned hall and move in. Members of Linfield's Greek organizations will be available to assist you.
3-5 p.m. Reception for Students and Family and Solution Stations – Location to be announced - This optional reception is a chance for you and your family to enjoy light refreshments and meet representatives from a variety of administrative offices who will be on hand to answer questions.
7:30 p.m. Cat Camp – Location to be announced - Join us for an evening of learning about Linfield College, our traditions, and quirks. Your first official Wildcat Event! Students and parents are welcome. Wear your Wildcat gear!
Please note: All events from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. are for you and all guests who have joined you, unless otherwise noted.
7-9 a.m. Breakfast for students on the meal plan – Dillin Hall - If you are on the meal plan, this is your first scheduled meal. Please bring your ID card to this (and all) meals. Parents and family are welcome to join you and pay on a cash basis.
9-10:30 a.m. First Meeting of Colloquium - You and your parents will meet with your faculty advisor and peer advisor to learn about Colloquium. Please bring your advising materials. You will meet in an assigned room, the location of which will be posted online on the Colloquium website.
11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Opening Convocation and Welcome to Linfield – Physical Education Building, Wilson Gym - This event is the traditional opening ceremony celebrating the new academic year. Join faculty, staff and current students during this event that marks your transition to the Linfield community. Family is encouraged to attend.
12:30-2 p.m. Lunch – Dillin Hall - You and all your family and other guests are welcome to enjoy a complementary lunch. Your ID Card will allow your entry and tickets for your guests will be available when you check in on Thursday.
2-3:30 p.m. Colloquium Meeting (Students) - You will meet with your advisors in your assigned Colloquium rooms.
2-3:30 p.m. Being a Great College Parent (Family) – Physical Education Building, Wilson Gym - This information session for parents and others who have joined you will include remarks by Linfield College staff and a chance for parents to ask questions.
3:30-4 p.m. Goodbyes – Meet at your residence hall- It's time for a last get-together with family and friends. Commuter students can meet at the fountain between Riley Campus Center and Walker Hall. Now is a good time to say goodbye - at least for a while.
4 p.m. Class Picture - We are starting a new tradition! Join all of your classmates for a group photo in the shape of the Linfield “L”. Don’t miss out on being part of our first class picture! Your Colloquium Peer Advisor will announce the location.
4:30 p.m. Playfair Event – Commencement Green (by Melrose Hall) - Playfair is an event unlike anything you have ever experienced. It’s fun and entertaining! It’s a perfect way to make new friends and is a high-energy change of pace.
4:30-6 p.m. International Student Orientation - Jonasson Hall in Melrose Hall - A special orientation session for international students from other countries. This mandatory session will cover immigration, safety, strategies for academic success, and other important information.
6:15-8 p.m. Outdoor Dinner by Colloquium Groups - Dinner will be served in Dillin and carried to the Academic Quad. You will separate by Colloquium groups, so keep your eye out for your advisor. All students will have a chance to participate in some get-acquainted activities.
8 p.m. Student Life Meeting – Meet in Wilson Gym - All new students will attend this meeting. Following this meeting, students living on campus in residence halls or apartments will have other organized activities.
8-10 a.m. Light snack for those taking placement tests - If you are taking a placement test and want something to eat prior to your test (highly recommended) then please stop by the first floor lobby of Walker Hall for a muffin, fruit and juice. Once the dining hall opens at 10 a.m., this station will not be available.
9-11 a.m. Language Placement Exams - Placement exams are offered for those interested in French, German, Japanese and Spanish. The details of placement tests will be provided to you in the Friday afternoon Colloquium meeting.
9 a.m. English Language and Culture Program Written and Oral Assessment - Melrose 210 - An assessment of your written and oral proficiency in English will be conducted if English is not your first language.
9-11 a.m. Information Sessions and Open Houses - The academic and personal support services available at Linfield include tutoring, career development, academic advising, health care, counseling, and wellness. A variety of information sessions and open office hours will be available to you. A detailed schedule will be provided during check-in.
10 a.m.-8 p.m. Dining Hall open for students on the meal plan – Dillin Hall - For weekend meals, the dining hall is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the meal plan you are required to use the first semester allows you unlimited access to Dillin Hall and the food services (retail items and to-go items excluded from the unlimited service). You may come and go as you please during the weekend hours.
12:15-1:30 p.m. Colloquium meetings - You will meet in the regular Colloquium meeting room with your Peer Advisor.
1:30 p.m. "C.A.T.S." - Consent Awareness Training Squad - CATS is a group of trained peer health educators who will lead presentations on reducing the risks of sexual misconduct including topics of active by-standing, low risk alcohol use and campus support and reporting options.
3-5 p.m. McMinnville Downtown - The McMinnville Downtown Association invites you to spend time in the heart of McMinnville. Special coupons will be available to use in all Association membership locations, and transportation will be available (but it's a short, easy walk so don't use the shuttle!!).
3 p.m. Pre-nursing information session – Graf Hall Room 101- Students interested in studying nursing at Linfield should attend this session.
4-5:30 p.m. Special events or meetings may be scheduled – Announcements will be made at Colloquium meetings
4:30-5:30 p.m. Music Department Reception - Vivian A. Bull Music Center - Please join the music faculty in our beautiful Delkin Recital Hall to learn about the many opportunities to participate in music at Linfield College. Learn about various ensembles, and about taking applied lessons in piano, voice and many other instruments. Tour the music building and learn about all the opportunities at Linfield to study music. Students planning to pursue a music major or minor can ask questions about music theory placement and the course of study.
5 p.m. Dinner Meal Service Begins - Dillin Hall
8 p.m. Headphone Disco - Headphone Disco is the silent party phenomenon that’s been rocking colleges, festivals and clubland from the UK to Uganda for the past five years. Surreal, insanely popular and completely unforgettable – the show and the Headphone Disco brand is one of the most talked-about and sought-after acts in the entertainment scene.
9 a.m. Optional Worship Service - Oak Grove near Melrose Hall - You are invited to join the Chaplain's Team for a time of worship.
10 a.m.-4 p.m. First Year Student Individual Advising in Colloquium - Faculty Offices - This is to finalize your schedule, get to know your advisor better, and ask more questions.
10 a.m.-8 p.m. Dining Hall open for students on the meal plan – Dillin Hall
2 p.m. Information Sessions – Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall - Here's your chance to find out about the range of activities available at Linfield. Sessions will be repeated to not conflict with your advising session.
2-2:30 p.m. Study Abroad - Learn about international semester-long study opportunities, and about the exciting and varied January Term programs.
2:40-3:10 p.m.Work Study and Other Employment - Find out about on-campus and off-campus jobs, and tips on gaining meaningful employment while at Linfield.
3:20-3:50 p.m. Study Abroad Session Repeats.
4-4:30 p.m. Work Study and Other Employment Session Repeats.
4-5 p.m. Student Involvement Fair – IM Field Open Space - Linfield has a wide variety of clubs and organizations - academic, service, spiritual and social organizations are available. Some clubs are sponsored by the Associated Students of Linfield College. Representatives from Greek organizations, club sports, intramurals, Residence Life leadership, and other programs will all be available to share information with you.

6:45 p.m. Meet in Colloquium Rooms
7 p.m. "Welcome to the Time of Your Life" - Wilson Gym - Dr. Will Keim will challenge you to become actively involved in your education in and out of the classroom. Dr. Keim is a frequent visitor to Linfield. "I want to inspire students," says Dr. Keim, "to start their campus careers with enthusiasm and armed with the tools for success."
9 p.m. Residence Hall Meetings for all students living in campus housing, meet in your residence hall.
Classes Begin
6:30 p.m. First regular meeting of Colloquium class. Colloquium meets on Mondays during the semester. Your faculty advisor will have more details about the Colloquium class schedule.
9 p.m. Comedian – Ice Auditorium. The Associated Students of Linfield College (ASLC) includes the Linfield Activities Board (LAB). LAB brings a wide variety of events and activities to the college for students to enjoy. Come and enjoy the comedian that LAB will schedule for this event in the Ice Auditorium of Melrose Hall.
3:30-5 p.m. DIVE Fair – Walker Hall Patio - Discover Internships, Volunteering and Employment - Join representatives from McMinnville area schools, nonprofits and businesses to learn more about opportunities to get involved in the local community. Co-sponsored by the Office of Career Development and the Office of Community Engagement and Service.
9 p.m. Professional Cat Cab – Fred Meyer Lounge - Join us for the first Cat Cab of the year. Every week the Linfield Activities Board (LAB) holds a concert in the Fred Meyer Lounge of Riley Campus Center. Some weeks, we bring in a professional group of musicians and other weeks it is your fellow students performing on stage.
