Student Profile
Linfield students come from varied backgrounds and experiences. They learn in a variety of settings and are involved in clubs, organizations, international travel, athletics, collaborative research, community service, theatre, music and art.
The McMinnville Campus student body comes from 26 states and 20 countries. Twelve percent are students of color; 4 percent are international students; 14 percent have family members who have attended Linfield; and 12 percent are first generation. Forty-two percent of the students come from outside of Oregon and 56 percent of the student body is female. The average high school GPA on entrance is 3.6 and the average SAT is 1133. Sixty-eight percent are ranked in the top 25 percent of their high school class and 35 percent are in the top 10 percent.
Linfield students are well traveled. International study opportunities are offered through semester abroad, year abroad or January Term and more than 50 percent of Linfield students study abroad by the time they graduate.
The five top majors are business, elementary education, biology, history and psychology. Eighty-seven percent of the student body receives financial aid with an average package of $18,300.
Over 75 percent of the study body lives on campus, in residence halls or apartments. More than 60 percent of McMinnville students participate in one or more of the college’s 19 varsity, five club and seven intramural sports. The college belongs to the NCAA Division III. All intercollegiate teams participate as members of the Northwest Conference.
Linfield students are involved in a wide variety of activities including over 40 clubs and organizations, 16 national academic honoraries, four media organizations, eight Greek organizations and 16 music groups. They have an opportunity to fill approximately 300 leadership positions. The Associated Students of Linfield College provides social, cultural and recreational activities as well as a chance for leadership and development. The many lectures on campus provide opportunities for the exchange of ideas with nationally and internationally known figures. Linfield's award-winning art, theatre and music programs attract both majors and non-majors. Linfield is also well known in forensics circles and hosts major college and high school forensics tournaments each year.
