McMinnville, Ore – January 20, 2012 – Linfield Adult Degree Program, announces that it will be making its Path to Scholarships® workshops available as a service to students who apply for administration to either Linfield College’s accredited bachelor’s degree or professional certificate programs. The workshops are being held twice in the coming weeks for those students who plan to enroll at Linfield for the 2012 to 2013 school year.
The Path to Scholarships® workshops are led by Gerardo Ochoa, Associate Director of Financial Aid at Linfield College, Portland Campus and Co-author of Path to Scholarships® College Edition. Mr. Ochoa has led many of these workshops where students organize materials successfully, write winning scholarship essays, and conduct personalized scholarship searches. As a result of taking the class, many Linfield students are winning scholarships every year. On average students attending the workshops have earned $6,000 in scholarships.
Paying for college is a challenge. The College Board recently conducted a survey on specific aspects of going to college, and the topic of paying for college, reported as being either “pretty challenging” or “very challenging,” for 53% of middle class families, and 64% of working class families.
“I have learned from working with the Adult Degree Program students that regardless of age, background, or circumstance, paying for college can be overwhelming, “ said Gerardo Ochoa. “Many of the students who attended the workshops have incredible stories of obstacles and triumph to tell, but it is challenging to share them in a scholarship essay with total strangers. Whether students are enrolling in college for the first time after graduating from high school, or attending college as working adults, all students need individualized guidance, encouragement, and support with the scholarship process.”
Hundreds of scholarships are available, but application deadlines are coming up quickly, including many, which are due in February. It is time to start applying now.
The first Path to Scholarships® workshop is being held on Saturday, January 28, 2012. Those planning to attend the first scholarship workshop of 2012, need to register by Friday, January 27, 2012. Those who can’t make the Portland, OR workshop will have an opportunity to partake in the Path to Scholarships® workshop webinar, which will be held online on February 4, 2012. Those interested in the webinar must register before February 1, 2012.
