Course Description: Survey of the history of the Trans-Mississippi US West from the pre-contact period through the present. Emphasis on shape of cultural contact and exchange, role of the federal government and capitalist development, and cultural expressions of the western experience. Special attention to race, class, and gender as modes of historical analysis. 4 credits. (VP or US)
