FIRE HISTORY OF THE CASCADES

Course Number: ENVS-306

Course Description: Examines the science and politics that guidenational fire policy using as a case study the92,000 acre B&B Complex Fire that burned in theDeschutes and Willamette National Forests duringthe summer of 2003. The class will contribute to aproject documenting the effects of the B&B ComplexFire, plans for restoration, and implications ofstate and federal fire policy for fire managementin the Deschutes National Forest. Use of thescientific method, through field research, as away of knowing about the natural world,highlighting the process of scientific inquiry andthe interplay between theoretical and experimentalanalysis.Offered summer.3 credits (NW)
