Linfield College Division of Continuing Education today announces the release of a comprehensive guide to online college education. Called "Transformations: A Guide to Online College for Adults," the ten chapter e-book gives an overview of what a student can expect when pursuing a college degree or certificate online.
Online education has grown rapidly over the last decade. According to a survey of 2,500 colleges and universities by the Sloan Consortium, over 3.9 million students were taking at least one online course during the fall 2007 term, a 12 percent increase over the number reported the previous year. Over twenty percent of all U.S. higher education students were taking at least one online course in the fall of 2007.
The guide was created as a practical resource for adult students considering an online education. Included is advice and anecdotes from current online college students, as well as guidance on how to evaluate which online school is best for you. Incorporated into the guide is also a survey which potential adult students can take to discover whether their temperament is conducive to online learning.
