Online Education Blog Launch

Welcome to the Online Education Blog, launched by Linfield College’s Division of Continuing Education.

Linfield has been involved with online education since its infancy in the late 1990s.  Our involvement in distance education for adult students dates back to 1975 when Linfield became the first college in Oregon to offer distance education, with a vision of enhancing access for adults who were seeking to achieve their bachelor’s degree.

Online college graduates celebrate graduationLinfield’s pioneering role in distance education among colleges in the Pacific Northwest has helped it overcome many hurdles faced by other schools that are newcomers to the online learning world.  The goal of this blog will be to answer common questions you may have about online education:

•    What is the value of an online degree?
•    What is learning like online? What are typical class formats? What kinds of technology are used?

We will also report on major trends in online education.  Articles slated for the first few weeks of the blog include an analysis of the availability of online degrees by subject area and a guide to online college for military personnel.

The voices of the Online Education Blog will include Linfield students, professors, advisors and administrators.  We welcome your ideas for blog article topics.  Email us with your thoughts.
