Steps to Successfully Complete Your 2013-2014 Financial Aid

Summer 2013, Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 Semesters

The Office of Financial Aid strives to provide the best service to each student. You must successfully complete the four steps below before we can offer you ANY Financial Aid.

Once you have completed these steps you will begin receiving communication from our office via your Linfield email account.  Review the Next Steps below.

Next Steps:

Verification

If your 2013-2014 FAFSA was selected for the process of verification, our office will request additional documentation from you.  Verification means the Federal Government is requesting that our office compare the information you submitted on your FAFSA with specific acceptable documentation.  You will be notified of the documentation required either by letter or to your Linfield email address.  In some cases our office may ask for additional documentation to resolve conflicting information.  If any corrections are required in our review, differences will be submitted back to the federal central processing system (CPS) and will result in an updated FAFSA.  If you have questions about verification, contact our office.

Award Letter

Once you receive your Financial Aid Award Letter please complete the following steps:

Your Award Letter may be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid in the following ways:

Linfield College, Office of Financial Aid
            900 SE Baker, Unit A484
            McMinnville OR 97128

Federal Direct Stafford Loans

If you are accepting Federal Direct Stafford Loans you must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) and sign electronically with your Federal PIN as your signature, www.pin.ed.gov. If you have never received a Federal Direct Stafford Loan before you must also complete Entrance Counseling online.

Your Federal Direct Stafford Loans will not be disbursed to your student account unless the following steps are completed:

Disbursements

Your financial aid will be disbursed to your student account after the census date of each semester for eligible students. For Federal Direct Stafford Loans, students must be enrolled in at least 6 credits.  Financial aid disbursement requires you to have regular and substantive interaction in each of your courses. Your instructor will confirm that you have been academically engaged and notify the DCE Office at the census date. The census date is the last date to withdraw without a W.  Your accepted financial aid will be disbursed to your student account after the census date of each semester (approximately 4-6 weeks into fall and spring semester, approximately 1-2 weeks for summer semester), provided you are eligible.  Dropping below 6 credit hours may cause cancellation of your current loan disbursements, cancellation or reduction of your grants, cancellation of your in-school loan deferment status for previous loans and/or immediate repayment of previous loans.
