Linfield students and faculty are active participants in cultural activities and the arts, both on the Linfield campus and in the community. Involvement ranges from the college’s annual theatre productions, to a variety of musical activities, to a community/college chamber orchestra including student performers, to a student-written and student-edited literary magazine.
The college’s library hosts annual readings by a variety of authors and the campus art gallery displays work by local and regional artists. Various academic departments provide events and activities that explore and celebrate the creative arts, and you will find across the campus many opportunities to learn from or participate in artistic or cultural programs.
Bleacher Bums
Baseball season is in full swing this spring as theatre students present "Bleacher Bums," a nine-inning comedy conceived by Joe Mantegna and written by members of Chicago's Organic Theater Company. The play will run May 1-3 and May 8-10 at 8:00 p.m. and May 4 at 2:00 p.m. in the Marshall Theatre in Ford Hall. It runs approximately 70 minutes without an intermission. There is a seventh-inning stretch. Tickets are just $9.00 for full price and $7.00 for students (any school, 1 ticket per ID), seniors (62+), Linfield faculty and staff (2 tickets per ID), and groups of 10 or more; with a $2 discount on opening night. Contact the Box Office directly for group tickets. Tickets are available on the web, offering added convenience. Just click on the "Buy Tickets Now" button. A small service charge will apply for web orders.Directed by Tyrone Marshall, Linfield professor of theatre arts and program director, "Bleacher Bums" explores a "day in the life" of loyal Chicago Cubs fans and gamblers from the cheap seats at Wrigley Field. Rabid cheerleaders (Bree Adams, Jamika Scott, Tess Malone, Zaida Marston), a blind man who does color commentary (Matt Cantelon), a sun-worshipping beauty (Trish Castaneda-Gonzales), a businessman (Caleb Kearns), and a hen-pecked husband (Zane Johnston) and his wife (Jillian Haig) bet among themselves; go out for hot dogs, beer, and frosty malts; and, occasionally, watch the game.
The cast also includes Jake Peterson (the announcer), Brenna Crocker, Jamie Kitts, Bryan Bove, Wyatt Lee, Chris Lambert, Garrett Garceau, Kriss Morton, Steven Stewart, and Alessa Downing.
Will the Cubs win the home game and who will the real winners turn out to be? Come to the game and find out!
