Description:
The Linfield Swim Camp is an excellent opportunity for swimmers to learn and enhance competitive swimming skills.
The camp focus is to enhance progressive skill development, stroke technique and drill work, as well as starts, turns and finishes.
The campers will also spend time in the classroom, goal setting, learning basic exercise science and sports psychology.
Camp Director: Linfield Swim Coach Gary Gutierrez
Directors:
Gary Gutierrez brings a mix of club coaching and international experience to his role as Linfield head coach. Prior to coaching at Linfield he directed the Canby Swim Club for two years and was the head coach and aquatics director for six years of the St. Croix Swimming Association on the island of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Gutierrez was the U.S. Virgin Island national team coach for six years. He coached at the Central American Games, the Caribbean Games, the 1991 Pan American Games and the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain.
As a club-team coach, he directed 10 athletes to competition at the U.S. Senior level, four of whom qualified to compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials. Another 25 athletes under his tutelage competed at the U.S. junior championship level.
Schedule:
7:30-8:15 a.m. Breakfast (residential campers only)
9:00-11:30 a.m. Split Sessions: Pool/Classroom
12:00-12:45 p.m. Lunch
1:30-4:30 p.m. Split Sessions: Pool/Classroom
5:30-6:15 p.m. Dinner (Residential campers only)
7:00-9:00 p.m. Supervised fun activities
Other Information:
Linfield boasts some of the best athletic facilities on the West Coast for a college of its size. Completed in 1989, this state-of-the-art athletic facility contains spacious locker rooms, offices and classrooms, a fully equipped athletic training room and ample display areas that house many trophies and recognitions of past Linfield teams and athletes.
Attached to the sports complex by indoor and outdoor walkways is the on-campus swimming pool. The eight-lane, 25-yard pool is complete with an elevated 250-seat spectator gallery and equipped with full electric timing and a one meter diving board. The natatorium's styling incorporates a large arched glass atrium window along the north wall allowing plenty of natural sunlight to filter inside.
