The 2015 Linfield Commencement will be streaming live. The video stream will begin 9:45 a.m. on May 31st.
11 a.m.: Nursing Pinning Ceremony, Mittleman Jewish Community Center, Portland. Tickets are required to attend the event.
4:30 p.m.: Graduates and faculty report to HHPA Building, McMinnville Campus. Seniors should wear cap and gown and line up in the breezeway. Faculty assemble in the Multipurpose Room.
5 p.m.: Baccalaureate Service, Ted Wilson Gymnasium, HHPA Building, McMinnville Campus.
Adam Ericksen ’02, education director for the Raven Foundation, will provide the baccalaureate address. Ericksen writes blogs and films vlogs on the foundation’s website that explore the intersections of mimetic theory, the news, religion and popular culture. He earned a bachelor’s in religious studies and a minor in history from Linfield, where his senior thesis was titled “The Divine in Disguise: How Judaism Deals with Suffering and Death” and he continued that theme with his honors thesis “The Divine in Disguise: How Christianity Deals with Suffering and Death.” He received his master’s in theological studies from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary with an emphasis in theology and ethics. 6:30 p.m.: Grad Finale, Dillin Hall. Graduating seniors and their families are invited to celebrate the transition from student to alumnus during Grad Finale/Senior Celebration in Dillin Hall, following baccalaureate exercises. Register now.
9 a.m.: Graduates report to Ted Wilson Gymnasium in cap and gown.
9:20 a.m.: Faculty robe in Fred Meyer Lounge.
10 a.m.: Commencement on the green between Melrose Hall and the President’s House. Refreshments follow in the Oak Grove.
Note: Access to the commencement green is restricted at 9:45 a.m. to prepare for the processional. Some aisles will be closed until after our graduates and faculty have entered and are seated, so please make every effort to arrive early and be in place.
Gale Castillo ‘73, president and one of the founders of the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber in Portland, will deliver the commencement address to the Linfield class of 2015. Castillo is the co-owner of Cascade Centers Inc., and has been recognized numerous times for her leadership and her community service. She is the first in her family to graduate from college. In addition to receiving her bachelor’s degree from Linfield, she has a master’s from Portland State University and completed the executive education program at the Harvard Kennedy School and the leadership development program at the Center for Creative Leadership.
