Alumni Profile: Jazmin Gorsline
Major at Linfield: Music Performance
What are you doing now?
I live in NYC and audition for musical theatre in the city and at regional theatres across the country. Currently, I am just outside of Chicago, rehearsing the role of Hodel in a production of Fiddler on the Roof at The Paramount Theatre in Aurora, Ill. It is The Paramount's second season, and it is a beautiful renovated movie house from the 1930s. It seats 1,885 people, and is definitely one of the most beautiful theatres I've ever performed in!
How did Linfield help prepare you for your career?
Linfield, and Dr. Gwen Leonard in particular, gave me really great vocal technique, health and knowledge that I am able to rely on to this day. I don't have to think about it, it is just built in and natural at this point. Actually, all of my music classes at Linfield really provided me with the best foundation to go out and do what I love. I meet many actors who went to a conservatory to study musical theatre specifically, but I'm really glad I had a well-rounded education at a liberal arts school, along with really great voice training, because I think you can study and pursue musical theatre on your own. This way, you have even more life, other interests and a varied background to pull from and use on stage.
