Meet new Linfield faculty members

Linfield College welcomed more than just a new class of students this fall. A dynamic group of new faculty members also arrived in departments that span the curriculum on both the McMinnville and Portland campuses.

Get an inside look at Linfield College from some of our newest students – four freshmen who are sharing their views of college life at Linfield. Rachel Codd ’13, Crystal Galarza ’13, Ron Kleinschmit ’13 and Kole Kracaw ’13 will blog about the ups and downs of campus life in 2009-10.

Spotlight on Lex Runciman

As part of the Readings at the Nick (Linfield’s Nicholson Library) series, one of Linfield’s own, Professor of English Lex Runciman, shared some of his poetry. Linfield Wildcats on a roll

The Wildcat football team continues to climb in Division III rankings. Linfield is currently ranked fifth in the nation with two games left in the season’s schedule. Catch a game, either in person or streaming live on the web.

Homecoming draws crowds and creates memories

Several hundred alumni returned to campus to reconnect with classmates and friends, celebrate reunions and other important milestones, stroll the campus of their youth and see how it has changed, celebrate the achievements of the award recipients, and cheer on the Wildcats. Using Linfield connections to enhance your career

Join us for one of the many upcoming events targeted at helping alumni reach their full business potential. Salem-area alumni can mix, mingle and expand their network at a Nov. 12 event at Willamette Valley Vineyards. Those wanting to know more about the power of social networking can learn from Steve Marshall ’86 at a Nov. 11 luncheon at Portland’s Westin Hotel. In addition, mark your calendar to attend another Westin luncheon on Jan. 12 when Julie Jones ‘85 will share tips about reaching your potential as a business leader.

During Homecoming festivities, Dan Preston '83, dean of enrollment services, moderated a panel comprised of three students and two professors including Ken Ericksen, professor of English, and Mindy (Legard) Larson '95, assistant professor of education. Alumni Scholarship Fund

Are you related to a current Linfield College student? If so, be sure that he or she knows about the Alumni Scholarship Fund. Applicants who have a minimum grade point of 3.0 and who are the sibling, child or grandchild of an alumnus are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The deadline is approaching quickly, so encourage the legacy student in your life to apply before Feb. 1. Alumni can make sure even more students have the opportunity to attend Linfield by making a gift to the Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Portland to celebrate Global Health Week

Join us Nov. 30 through Dec. 4 on the Portland Campus to celebrate the first Linfield College Global Health Week with art, lectures, film, exhibitors, ethnic food and more. The event features internationally renowned speakers covering globalization, culture, world conflicts, politics and policy, and other key global health concepts. Adult learners on the rise

Adults are returning to Linfield College at a record pace, according to a recent report on PRWeb. Linfield's Adult Degree Program has seen a significant increase in the number of students enrolled in their online bachelor's degree and certificate programs. Applications from adult students before the start of fall 2009 semester were 43 percent greater than last year at the start of fall 2008 semester.

Family Weekend wins strong reviews

Our post-weekend survey attracted rapid responses from parents who were delighted by the Family Weekend programs and the chance to visit their students’ new habitat. One parent told us, “Our belief that Linfield was a great fit for our daughter was reaffirmed.”

President’s Circle reception Nov. 5

Now is a great time to renew your President’s Circle gift to Linfield College.  All current members of the President’s Circle, the donors who contribute annually at the President’s Circle level of  $1,000 or more, are invited to attend the 2009 President’s Circle reception on Thursday, Nov. 5, at Linfield’s Portland campus. The reception will begin at 5:15 p.m. with wine and appetizers. At 6 p.m Chris Keaveney, the recipient of the Edith Green Distinguished Professor Award, and Lena Kim ’06 will present “Linfield in Asia.” Join us as we thank you and your fellow members of the President’s Circle. Seating will be limited.

Starting off on a good note

Yamhill County community members gathered Sept. 22 to kick off the 36th annual Partners in Progress (PIP) campaign. Participants were treated to breakfast and a musical performance by Linfield music major Chelsea Janzen ’12, accompanied by Gwen Leonard, Linfield professor of music. This year, campaign leaders hope to raise $520,000 for Linfield scholarships, athletics, and cultural activities. Learn more about PIP.
