"Science, Society and Education in the 21st Century" will be the topic of lecture by Sir Harold W. Kroto, one of the recipients of the 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, Thursday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium at Linfield College. Dr. Kroto is a passionate advocate for science education and devotes a great deal of time and energy to promoting careers in science among young people. Inside Libya – alumna featured on OPB

OPB broadcast an interview with Nadia Abraibesh ’10, who has been documenting protests in the streets of Benghazi, the city that led the revolt against Gadhafi. Dynamite explosions shook the house where she stayed with Libyan relatives. Abraibesh is expected to return to her home in the U.S. this week. Read more about her experience.

Mercy Corps welcomes Linfield

Get the latest on medical developments in Cameroon at a spring event for alumni and friends with an interest in the health care field. Neal Rosenburg, Ph.D., RN, will share findings of his research on HIV and AIDS during "Care in Cameroon" Tuesday, April 19, from 5:30-8 p.m. at Mercy Corps’ new headquarters in Portland. The 2011 Lloydena Grimes award for excellence in nursing will also be presented.

Soccer team runs laps for a cause

The Linfield men’s soccer team took part in an unusual off-season workout, volunteering at the Grandhaven Elementary School jog-a-thon. Team members encouraged and ran laps around the gym with the elementary school children. Read more about the day or find out about other Linfield athletic teams on the Linfield website.

LCO to feature world premiere

Linfield Chamber Orchestra will feature the world premiere of “Moabit Sonnets,” written by one of the world’s most performed living composers, Libby Larsen. The Grammy Award-winning musician has composed more than 400 works spanning virtually every genre. As part of a week-long residency, Larsen will be in attendance at concerts on Friday, April 15, at 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 16, at 3 p.m. at Linfield. She will present a pre-concert lecture an hour before each concert.

Recognizing alumni

The Alumni Leadership Council selects award recipients to be honored during homecoming. Awards include Distinguished Alumnus of the Year, Alumni Service Award and Outstanding Young Alumnus. The ALC may also present the Walker Service Award, given to a non-alumnus who has provided outstanding service to the college. If you know of individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their profession or someone who has provided service to Linfield, nominate them.

Meet Jaydee Baxter '12, an exercise science major here at Linfield. She is an outstanding student, an outfielder for the unstoppable softball team, a member of a sorority and she plays three intramural sports. She is also one of 2,250 students who rely on scholarships, grants or financial assistance to attend Linfield this year.
