Gallery hosts one of Linfield's own
Recent paintings and pots by art professor Nils Lou fill the Linfield Gallery this month. "Anomalies," featuring works by the ceramicist and painter, is on display through Jan. 28. As the title suggests, the artwork deviates from common forms -- Lou's acrylic paintings are bright and vibrant, and the playful series depicts the female figure. Lou, recognized as an international authority on kiln building, has exhibited in galleries and exhibitions across the country. Read more about Lou and the exhibit online.

Returning to her roots
Melissa Galloway ’06 found herself back in a Murdock chemistry classroom – but this time she was doing the teaching. A visiting professor at Reed College, she returned to Linfield to speak with students as a scientist working to improve air quality. “The best part about chemistry is that often you fail over and over and then suddenly, it works,” she said. “Those successes can sometimes be things you never expected to find.” Read more about her visit on the Linfield news site.

Wildcat consistency takes national spotlight
Readers are offered a rare peek inside the Linfield football program as part of a suite of stories in this month's Coach and Athletic Director magazine. Editor Michael Austin, who was granted behind-the-scenes access during the 2011 season, spotlights Linfield’s weekly preparation methods and game-coaching practices in an 11-page suite of articles, "Playing to Personnel’s Strengths Proves Successful, Consistent."
Surfer goes green with cool job
Ryan Harris ’00 spends his days at the beach designing eco-friendly surfboards. He sometimes wears a wetsuit to work, and surfing is mandatory. Sound like a dream job? CNBC thought so, and featured Harris on the “Best Jobs Ever” program. Watch a video. Harris and his partners opened the world’s first full-scale eco surfboard production facility in California last spring, and business at the 3,000 square-foot facility is booming. Read more online.
