Inquiring minds want to know
Linfield College percolated with curiosity this summer. In all, 54 students engaged in faculty-student collaborative summer research projects, made possible by a variety of grants, exploring topics including Burmese refugees in Thailand, dory fishermen in Pacific City and sponges in Oregon estuaries. Thanks to a grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation to Linfield College, the Linfield Center of the Northwest supported the research of Tanya Tompkins, associate professor of psychology, who worked with students to explore the topic "Prescription Privileges for Psychologists: Perceptions, Knowledge, and Attitude Change of Oregon Psychologists." Watch a video to learn more about the project.
Come on home – Homecoming 2012
Alumni are welcome to return to campus anytime, but Homecoming presents some wonderful opportunities that may not exist year- round. This year's Homecoming, Oct. 12-13, will provide not only class reunions (for the classes of 1952, 1962, 1972, 1982, 1992 and 2002) but also reunions for math majors, business and economics majors, those who lived in Hewitt and Whitman Halls, those who studied abroad in Japan, members of the Sigma Kappa Phi Sorority and more. Make plans now to attend. See the schedule or register online.
'Cats invade Thousand Oaks and Puyallup
All Linfield alumni and Wildcat football fans in southern California and the Puget Sound area are invited to pre-game BBQs next month. The fifth-ranked 'Cats travel to 12th-ranked Cal Lutheran on Saturday, Sept. 15, and Linfield faces Northwest Conference rival Pacific Lutheran on Saturday, Sept. 29. Pre-game BBQs will be held near both stadiums from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., with kickoff at 12:30 p.m. Register for one or both BBQs online.
Linfield Professionals Network heads to NW Portland
Networking with fellow Wildcats is a great opportunity to find new clients, land a job or meet other Linfield alumni. The next Linfield Professionals Network Event, hosted by Paul Williams '97, will be held Thursday, Sept. 13, at 5:30 p.m. at ISITE Design in NW Portland. This free networking event is open to all Linfield College alumni. Read more about the event or register online.
Award-winning alumni honored
Each year, the alumni association honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Linfield, to their chosen fields and to their communities. Four awards will be bestowed on Friday, Oct. 12, during Linfield's Finest. Recipients include Linfield Chamber Orchestra Board, Walker Service Award; Erika Janik '02, Outstanding Young Alumna Award; BWC committee, Alumni Service Award; and Peter Ellefson '84, Distinguished Alumnus Award. Read more about the awardees. Make plans now to attend the award event and nominate someone for one of the 2013 alumni awards.
Do you have war-related experiences to share?
Professors Patrick Cottrell and David Sumner are teaming up to teach two courses – War and Literature and War, Politics and Society. They are interested in finding Linfield alumni or parents who have some war experiences to share with students. Experiences could range from serving in the military, carrying the load at home, losing a loved one or something else. Students will interview interested parties (via Skype or phone) and some may be invited to visit class and sit on a panel. If interested, please email alumni@linfield.edu.
Thanks for sharing
In less than 10 days, the class of 2016 will arrive on campus. Thanks to all of the alumni who shared sage advice about how to survive and thrive during the first few weeks of college life. Linfield's Student Alumni Association will distribute these words of wisdom to the newest generation of Wildcats as they settle into their new homes. It's not too late to send your advice. Email alumni@linfield.edu with your words of wisdom.
