LINFIELD COLLEGE
POLICY ON STUDENT TEACHING DISPUTE RESOLUTION

(OAR 584-017-0035)

584-017-0035 The unit has procedures to resolve disputes in which there is disagreement on successful completion of the practicum.

(1) The unit has procedures to resolve cases in which the institution's supervisor and the school supervisor do not agree that the candidate demonstrated competence required for successful completion of the practicum.

Policy: In cases in which a Linfield college supervisor and a cooperating teacher can not agree on the "Student Teaching Assessment Form" that a student teacher has passed one or more of the areas of competence, a third person will be asked to assess the student teacher's competence in that area. That person shall be the Education Department Chairperson, except when the Chair is the college supervisor, in which case an alternate will be chosen who is acceptable to both supervisors.

(2) The unit has an appeal procedure for candidates who are denied recommendation for licensure.

Policy: In cases in which a Linfield student teacher has been denied recommendation for licensure due to failure to sucessfully complete student teaching, or for any other reason, the student may appeal this decision using the Linfield College Academic Grievance Procedure. A written petition to the Vice President for Academic Affairs will initiate this procedure.
